Children’s Book: Things They Do and You Can Too

Art Direction: Matt Curtius

This is a children’s poem book that shows kids that it’s okay to make mistakes, to face difficult challenges and to feel certain emotions associated with those struggles. The book takes you through a series of common childhood mistakes depicted through animal and bug characters. After each character is presented an issue, that character is then provided a solution or assurance that what they did or experienced is okay. My book functions as a way for kids to get positive reinforcement and assurance for their actions if they have no other source of validation. I used primary colors to help enforce ideas of childhood learning, a paper texture overlay, and a speckled texture to add more depth and playfulness to my style.
